Movie Night

Movie and Dialogue on the Third Thursday, hosted by Corky Becker, PhD. Movie Night is co-sponsored by the Public Conversations Project and Therapy Training Boston. Developed by Corky Becker, Ph.D, movie night is an opportunity to view a film and have meaningful discussions in an intimate setting about important issues with others whose experiences and perspectives may be different.

These movies raise issues about diversity, bridging differences, and relating to other people in stressful personal and social contexts. The movies in this series stimulate discussion about the impact of public issues on how we live together in a family and as member of the human community. The purpose of this program is to increase awareness of these issues and their effects, and to give participants an opportunity to share personal experiences and perspectives on issues evocatively represented in these films. The dialogue following the movies is facilitated in a spirit of inclusion and curiosity about different perspectives.

  • May 24, 2012 (note: 4th Friday): Babies
co-hosts John Sargent and Neha Shrama, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Tufts Medical Center
  • June 21, 2011: City Island
co-host Sallyann Roth, Public Conversations Project

At movie night, we watch and discuss films focused on how people interact when dealing with stressful family events and polarizing public issues. Free and open to the public; bring your friends and family! 7-10 pm, with three hours of continuing education for a fee, if you wish.

  A SELF-LED APPROACH TO REPAIRING
ONE'S RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD AND BODY
With Alice J. Rosen, LMHC
for therapists, nutritionists and health
professionals (16 CEU's)

June 22-24, 2012 Concord, MA

What if one could eat from a Self-led place, with Calmness, Confidence, Clarity, Courage, Curiosity, Compassion, Creativity and a sense of Connectedness?

What if the diet managers and the firefighters could be released from their extreme roles?

What if those parts could allow the inherent body wisdom about When, What and How much to eat inform one in making sensible choices about eating?

What if one could truly care for exiled parts, which the disordered eating system is trying to protect?

For therapists, nutritionists and health professionals

Enhance your work with individuals who suffer from emotional eating.

This experiential workshop is an opportunity to internalize the essentials of a healthy relationship with food and body.

  • You will experience a cellular understanding that the body is self-regulating.
  • You will learn to differentiate nutritional from emotional hungers.
  • Using the Internal Family Systems approach, we will identify and get to know parts connected to the reasons we "resist" responding to bodily cues of hunger and satiety.
